about

Weddingbelle nyc, is the result of one girl's sincere belief that purchasing a stylish wedding gown in Rhode Island should be an enjoyable experience, which should take place in a setting that is itself equally as stylish and enjoyable.

PART I:  shopping around
When I began to search for my own wedding gown just a few years ago, I was dismayed by what I found.

Some shops, it appeared, engaged in an odd practice of hiding their dresses in a restricted area of the store, out of public view.  At these fine stores, the bride was forced to communicate the style of dress she was interested in to the sales assistant, in hopes that she would be able to retrieve the perfect match from the store's secret stash of dresses.

Other shops, did in fact, keep their selection of dresses on display and in plain view, however the styles were so outdated (many suffering from the poof sleeves and heavy beading affliction of the nineteen-eighties) that one could only wish these gowns were hidden from view.

Still others came quite close to meeting all of my expectations.  These fine establishments were fully stocked with gowns befitting an In Style Weddings cover- shoot, which were displayed within full reach of the bride-to-be's newly manicured fingertips.  There were offerings of tea and coffee and even small plates of Italian biscotti. It seemed that nothing was amiss at these stylish fashion houses . . .that is, until one gave a quick glance at the price-tag and realized that it cost as much as her entire wedding budget.

PART II:  the commitment
Eventually, I did find a gown for myself . . . but not in Rhode Island, as I had hoped.  I was frustrated at the thought of other brides having to search all over New England for a stylish and affordable wedding gown- and then the thought occurred…  What if I opened up my own shop?  Some place cute and trendy that could make a girl feel like a bride?  As time passed and I saw my friends and sister struggle with same issues I had encountered, I became even more committed to the idea:  my very own bridal shoppe!

PART III:  the proposal
Armed with all of the fashion knowledge that five years of living in New York City can impart, I sat down to draft my business plan.  I asked myself what had been important to me, as a young bride entering a bridal shop for the first time. Here is what I came up with:

  1. Stylish Gowns
  2. Affordable Prices
  3. Excellent Customer Service
  4. Great Atmosphere

PART IV:  A MARRIAGE OF IDEAS
In August of 2006 I took the above list and made it a reality.  I stocked weddingbelle nyc with stylish gowns that a bride could see, touch, and most importantly, afford- thereby crossing numbers 1 and 2 off my list.  I decided to dedicate my days and nights to personally tending to the needs of all brides that walked through the shoppe's door (thus, checking off number 3).  Finally, I made sure that even without biscotti, my customers would feel comfortable, relaxed, and very much like brides in a clean and modern setting- satisfying number 4 on my list.

Weddingbelle nyc is located at 354 Main Street on the first floor of a charming historic building in the seaside town of Warren, RI.
